The Sindh High Court (SHC) has instructed K-Electric to submit a report on power load-shedding in Jamshed Quarters and urged the provincial law officer to consider providing solar energy to low-income households, according to a report by presstonight on Tuesday.
During a hearing on a petition against the frequent load-shedding in Jamshed Quarters, an SHC division bench led by Justice Salahuddin Panhwar questioned K-Electric’s counsel about the extent of load-shedding in the area.
The court inquired about the financial status of the residents from the petitioner, who responded that the area is predominantly inhabited by middle-class and low-income families, who suffer the most from the power outages.
The petitioner highlighted that despite paying their electricity bills, residents are continually deprived of electricity due to load-shedding. The court questioned the justification for load-shedding in areas where residents do not use air conditioners.
The court also asked the provincial law officer about the utilization of foreign funds meant for climate change and tree planting, suggesting that these funds could be used to provide solar energy to low-income areas.
K-Electric’s counsel requested the court to direct the provincial government to help remove illegal connections in Jamshed Quarters. The court then ordered K-Electric to present detailed information on the load-shedding situation in the area at the next hearing.
