On Friday, the Sindh government announced plans to introduce more buses across the province in the upcoming financial year. This decision was made during a meeting of the Sindh Transport and Mass Transit Department, held in Karachi and chaired by Sharjeel Inam Memon, the Minister for Information, Transport, Mass Transit, Excise, Taxation, and Narcotics Control. The meeting was attended by Secretary of Transport Asad Zaman, Sindh Mass Transit Authority Managing Director Kamal Hakeem Dayo, and other officials.
During the meeting, Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon emphasized that the initiative aligns with the vision of Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and President Asif Ali Zardari to connect tehsils with district headquarters. He mentioned that the scheme under consideration reflects this vision and that, following Bilawal Bhutto’s instructions, a new people’s bus service would commence operations from Sukkur to Larkana and Sukkur to Khairpur.
The session included a comprehensive briefing for Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon on several ongoing and planned projects. These projects include the construction of various Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) corridors, the installation of traffic signals on roads, the reconstruction of bus terminals, and the construction of a U-turn specifically for the People’s Bus Service.
One significant decision made during the meeting was the construction of a parking plaza to alleviate traffic congestion in the central areas of Hyderabad. Additionally, Sharjeel Inam Memon was briefed on the progress of eight bus terminal construction projects. He was informed that the construction work on these terminals had been completed, and they are expected to be operational by June.
Overall, these developments indicate a significant expansion of the public transportation infrastructure in Sindh, aimed at improving connectivity and reducing traffic pressures in key areas of the province.
