A Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) delegation met with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in Islamabad on Sunday to discuss the fiscal year 2024-25 budget, as reported by Radio Pakistan. The delegation included prominent figures such as former Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, Syed Naveed Qamar, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, and Sherry Rehman. They discussed the overall political situation and budget plans for the coming fiscal year.

Key Government Figures Attend Budget Meeting

The meeting was also attended by key government officials including Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Federal Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal, Adviser to Prime Minister on Political Affairs Rana Sanaullah, and Federal Minister for Law and Justice Azam Nazeer Tarar. The PPP’s support is vital for the PML-N-led government to pass the budget.

Prime Minister’s Commitment to Investors

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif pledged more facilities for foreign investors and the business community in the upcoming budget. During the first meeting of the Economic Advisory Council (EAC), he emphasized the importance of consulting with economic experts and the private sector to shape the country’s economic policies and reforms.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Presents Rs1.754 Trillion Budget

In a related development, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provincial government presented a budget of Rs1.754 trillion for the financial year 2024-25, projecting a surplus of over Rs100 billion. The budget, presented by Provincial Minister for Finance Aftab Alam, included Rs1.212 trillion from federal receipts and Rs93 billion from provincial revenues.

OICCI Proposes Telecom Tax Abolition

The Overseas Investors Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OICCI) has called for the abolition of the advance tax on telecom subscribers in their budget proposals.

These discussions and proposals are part of the broader effort to shape Pakistan’s economic strategy for the coming fiscal year.
