Amid growing contentions between the two key ruling allies, the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), top leaders from both parties, including Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, met in Islamabad on Thursday to address their differences.
According to sources reported by Presstonight, the coalition government, led by PM Shehbaz, took the PPP leadership into confidence ahead of “crucial legislation” expected in the National Assembly. The session for this legislative process is set to be convened on Monday.
Although details of the upcoming legislation were not disclosed, insiders revealed that the discussions also covered the prevailing political situation and several key issues facing the country. The PPP delegation, led by Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, included Senator Sherry Rehman, former National Assembly Speaker Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, and MNA Naveed Qamar. On the PML-N side, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, along with PM’s aide on public and political affairs Rana Sanaullah, participated in the discussions.
During the meeting, PPP leaders raised concerns about the non-implementation of a written agreement regarding the power-sharing formula in Punjab, expressing frustration over being consistently ignored in the provincial government. To address these grievances, a meeting of the PML-N and PPP coordination committees has been scheduled for Sunday, August 25, at the Punjab Governor House. The session is aimed at resolving the issues between the two parties and ensuring smoother cooperation moving forward.
