PMD Issues Warning to Fishermen as Arabian Sea Depression Moves Westward

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a warning for fishermen to avoid venturing into deep waters due to a prevailing depression in the Arabian Sea, which is expected to move towards the Oman coast.

According to the PMD, “The depression over West-central Arabian Sea has slowly moved further westward during the past 10 hours and is currently located approximately 1,190 km southwest of Karachi.”

The Met Office also noted that winds of 30-40 kilometers per hour, with gusts reaching up to 50 km per hour, are likely around the system center until this evening, after which conditions are expected to improve. Sea conditions will remain rough until evening but are projected to stabilize afterward. The system is anticipated to weaken into a well-marked low-pressure area by this afternoon.

Despite these developments, the PMD has confirmed that none of Pakistan’s coastal areas are currently under threat from this system.

In related weather news, Karachi experienced light showers in the early hours of Tuesday morning due to cloud cover associated with the Arabian Sea depression.
