The Peshawar High Court (PHC) has denied the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government’s request to establish a judicial commission to investigate the violence that occurred on May 9.

According to sources, the court ruled that the entity which submitted the request lacked the authority to do so. The PHC further stated that the KP government violated the 1985 Rules of Business by making such a request without proper mandate.

The court’s decision was communicated to the KP government through a letter from the PHC’s registrar, following the directive of Chief Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim.
