Pakistan Confirms First Mpox Case of 2024

Pakistan has reported its first Mpox case of 2024, just one day after the World Health Organization (WHO) declared Mpox a global health emergency of public concern. The infected individual, a young man from Dir currently residing in Mardan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, recently returned from a Middle Eastern country.

According to an official from the Ministry of National Health Services, Regulations, and Coordination (NHS, R&C), the man tested positive for Mpox on August 3 after his return from the Arab state. Provincial health authorities are now actively engaged in contact tracing to prevent further spread of the virus.
