Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif clarified during a media conference that “Operation Azm-e-Istehkam” is primarily a national security initiative, not a political maneuver. Defence Minister Emphasizing the criticality of unified support, he underscored that every institution’s cooperation is essential for the operation’s effectiveness in combating the recent surge in terrorism.

Asif highlighted the unanimous approval of Azm-e-Istehkam by the Apex Committee, which includes Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, who reportedly raised no objections during the meeting. He reiterated that the operation aims solely to confront and eradicate the growing threats of terrorism and extremism that have escalated in recent months.

The operation, integrated under the National Action Plan (NAP) and approved by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, has faced criticism for its military approach without prior parliamentary consultation. However, Asif affirmed the operation’s focus on comprehensive and decisive actions against terrorism, incorporating various strategic efforts.

He also mentioned diplomatic efforts to reduce terrorists’ operational capabilities through regional cooperation, highlighting Pakistan’s commitment to combatting extremism on multiple fronts.
