Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL), Pakistan’s leading Exploration and Production (E&P) company, has announced the start of tight gas production from its Nur West Well-1 in Sindh. This significant development was shared with the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) on Monday.

OGDCL, which holds a 100% working interest in the Nur Development & Production Lease (D&PL) located in Sujawal, Sindh, stated, “We are pleased to announce the commencement of early commercial production of tight gas from Nur West Well-1.”

Tight gas, a type of natural gas trapped in reservoir rocks with very low permeability, requires advanced hydraulic fracturing techniques to be extracted at viable economic rates. The current production from Nur West Well-1 is 1.5 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) of gas, with a wellhead flowing pressure of 1050 PSI, sourced from the Lower Guru formation.

The extracted gas has been integrated into the Sui Southern Gas Company Limited (SSGCL) network, enhancing Pakistan’s national gas supply infrastructure. The well was drilled to a depth of 2,975 meters, where conventional testing methods initially did not yield favorable results, leading to the application of hydraulic fracturing to achieve production viability.

OGDCL has also emphasized its commitment to strengthening Pakistan’s energy resources, stating that a tight gas exploration and development roadmap is under implementation. This move is part of the company’s broader strategy to secure the nation’s energy needs and promote sustainable development.

Earlier in the month, OGDCL announced further positive testing results from the Razgir-1 exploratory well in the Kawagarh formation in Kohat, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
