NA Standing Committee on IT Summons PTA Chairman to Explain Nationwide Social Media Disruption and Internet Outages

In response to the ongoing disruption of social media services and internet connectivity across Pakistan, the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Information Technology has summoned Hafiz Rehman, Chairman of the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), to provide a detailed explanation. The committee, led by Chairman Amin ul Haq, has expressed concern over the widespread interruptions and is seeking clarity on the matter.

Inquiry into Social Media and Internet Disruptions:

  • Summoning PTA Chairman: Hafiz Rehman has been asked to present the reasons behind the persistent disruption in social media services, which has affected users nationwide. The committee is particularly interested in understanding whether these disruptions are part of a broader strategy or if they are due to technical issues.
  • Nationwide Internet and Mobile Signal Issues: The committee has also requested detailed information regarding the ongoing internet service disruptions and weakened mobile signals that have plagued the country. These issues have led to significant inconvenience for the public and raised concerns about the reliability of digital infrastructure.

Involvement of Legal Authorities:

  • Attorney General’s Participation: To ensure a comprehensive understanding of the situation, the Attorney General of Pakistan has been invited to attend the committee’s meeting. The meeting is scheduled to take place on August 21 at the Parliament House, where further discussions and explanations will be sought.

As of now, internet services remain down across the country, with no official clarification on the cause of the disruption. The lack of communication from PTA has fueled speculation and concern among citizens and stakeholders alike. The upcoming meeting is expected to shed light on the issues and provide a path forward to restore normalcy in digital communication services.
