Chief Minister of Punjab, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, has initiated significant steps to digitize land records in the province. This directive was given during a special meeting focused on Board of Revenue reforms, where she was briefed on the Punjab Urban Land Systems Enhancement (PULSE) project. The digitization process, supported by the World Bank’s ‘Plus Project,’ involves collaboration among relevant departments.
The plan includes digitizing land records for Punjab, aiming to increase transparency in the revenue system. There is also a proposal to review the abolition of the joint property system and assign separate property numbers to each owner, simplifying the ownership and transfer process.
Additionally, a new service for overseas Pakistanis will facilitate property transfers, providing rights-holder records, mutation, e-Girdawari, and registration services.
Furthermore, Maryam launched the Nawaz Sharif IT (NSIT) City Project, aimed at making Punjab a hub for technology and innovation. The NSIT City, covering 853 acres, will house tech companies, universities, and provide international certifications for youth. The project also offers a ten-year tax-free incentive for businesses. Future plans include relaunching the laptop scheme and providing e-bikes to young women.
