Karachi to Experience Light to Moderate Rains

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted that Karachi is likely to see isolated light to moderate rains in certain areas, with partly cloudy and humid weather prevailing over the next 24 hours. The Met Office has recorded the minimum temperature at 27°C, with expectations that the temperature will rise to between 32°C and 34°C during the day.

According to the PMD, the humidity level in the city is currently at 81%, with winds blowing from the west at a speed of 10 kilometers per hour. This forecast comes after Karachi experienced torrential rains for several days due to the influence of Cyclonic Storm ‘Asna,’ which has since dissipated. However, the aftermath of these rains has led to the appearance of cracks on roads, causing significant challenges for commuters.

Following the lifting of restrictions due to the cyclonic storm, the weather department had allowed fishermen in Sindh to resume their activities at sea from September 1, with Balochistan’s fishermen permitted to return to the waters from September 2.

Meanwhile, the heavy rains have continued to batter regions in Sindh, including Tharparkar, Mithi, Islamkot, and surrounding areas. Mithi alone recorded 80mm of rain in just 24 hours. The PMD noted that while the rain has filled ponds, benefiting local crops, it has also caused disruptions.

The Met Office has also reported that monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea are currently penetrating the southern and eastern parts of the country. On Tuesday, the PMD predicted rain-wind/thundershowers, with isolated heavy falls, in Sindh, northeast and south Balochistan, and south Punjab. Additionally, isolated rain-wind/thundershowers are expected in northeast Punjab, the Potohar region, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan.
