K-Electric (KE), the sole power supply company for the metropolis, has extended the bill payment dates for the months of July and August. This decision aligns with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s directives to offer relief to the stressed public by extending the deadline for electricity bill payments by 10 days.
According to a KE spokesperson, consumers can now pay their bills until August 10. Additionally, any late payment surcharges incurred will be adjusted in the following month’s bill.
“This change in deadline will also be reflected next month, allowing KE consumers to pay their bills until September 10,” said the spokesperson.
Last week, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif instructed the Ministry of Energy to issue this extension, leading the Power Division to order all power distribution companies, including KE, to implement the extension for the July and August 2024 bills.
The prime minister’s directives were issued in response to the difficulties faced by power consumers dealing with inflated electricity bills. The Power Division stated that the extension is effective for one month and will benefit power consumers for their July bills only. For example, if the original due date for the July bill was August 7, it has now been extended to August 17.
The extension will also apply to the August bills, which will now be due on September 17, maintaining a consistent one-month interval between due dates.
