Karachi, May 20, 2024 – Senior Minister of Sindh and Provincial Minister for Information, Transport, Excise, Taxation, and Narcotics Control, Sharjeel Inam Memon, presided over a high-level meeting of the Excise, Taxation, and Narcotics Control Department in Karachi. Several critical decisions were made during this meeting to enhance the department’s efficiency and effectiveness.

One of the key outcomes was the establishment of a Rapid Response Force within the Excise Department, tasked with operations against tax evaders and drug dealers. Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon emphasized the importance of stringent measures to curb drug smuggling and instructed officials to set up checkpoints to intercept illegal substances.

The meeting also focused on the auction of premium number plates. It was decided that the issuance of these plates would commence immediately after Eid-ul-Azha, following the finalization of the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Initially, seven premium number plates will be auctioned in each category. Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon highlighted that a rigorous procedure would be enforced for using these premium plates, and strict actions would be taken against those using counterfeit plates. An event, to be held post-Eid-ul-Adha, will mark the auction’s launch, with invitations extended to automobile manufacturing companies.

Further steps discussed include the installation of machinery to facilitate the production of new and duplicate number plates. This move aims to streamline the process and meet the growing demand efficiently.

Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon also directed the officers to ensure the achievement of various tax targets, emphasizing the importance of meeting these goals for the department’s success. To this end, weekend leave for officers will be suspended until the targets are met. Additionally, a public awareness campaign regarding taxes will be initiated through newspaper advertisements to educate and inform the public.

The meeting was attended by key officials including Secretary Excise Saleem Rajput, DG Excise Aurangzeb Panhwar, and directors from various departments within the Excise Department. Their presence underscored the collaborative effort required to implement these significant changes and improvements.
