ECC Prioritizes Gas for Industrial Processes and Considers Winding Up PCCC

The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC), led by Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, approved a proposal to prioritize gas supply for industrial processes alongside domestic and commercial sectors. This decision was part of several key measures discussed during the meeting.

The ECC endorsed the amendment in the gas allocation priority order, elevating gas use for industrial processes to the same level as domestic and commercial needs. Industries relying on captive power were moved to a lower priority along with the Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) sector, a move aimed at supporting gas-dependent industries by placing them in the top priority category.

A proposal by the Ministry of National Food Security and Research for a loan of Rs656 million to the Pakistan Central Cotton Committee (PCCC) was deliberated. The ECC, however, recommended winding up the PCCC and directed that the case be submitted to the Cabinet Committee for Rightsizing of the Federal Government.

The committee also reviewed and authorized civil works procurement for the “Kalkatak-Chitral 48km (Section-III) Road Project (N-45)” and approved Rs238.42 million for settling arrears from wheat subsidy schemes from 2015-16.

The meeting was attended by key ministers, officials from various ministries, and senior officers from relevant divisions.
