In an extraordinary recognition of her efforts, Dr. Mahrang Baloch, a human rights activist and leader of the Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC), has been named in Time magazine’s prestigious list of the 100 most influential people of 2024. This annual list highlights global leaders, innovators, advocates, and artists who are shaping the future with their influence.
Mahrang was celebrated for her peaceful advocacy of Baloch rights, particularly her leadership in the December 2023 march to Islamabad, where hundreds of women rallied to demand justice for their missing husbands, sons, and brothers. Her dedication to championing human rights in the Baloch community has earned her international recognition at just 31 years old.
In response to the honor, Mahrang took to her official Facebook page, sharing her delight and posting a picture of the magazine featuring herself on the cover. “I am deeply honored and delighted to be named among the top 100 emerging leaders of the world by TIME,” she expressed.
Bangladeshi and Gazan Figures Also Honored
In addition to Mahrang, two other influential figures were spotlighted. Nahid Islam, a Bangladeshi student leader who became the face of nationwide protests against Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, also made the list. The protests, initially sparked by grievances over government hiring policies, culminated in the prime minister’s controversial flight to India.
Hamada Shaqoura, a Gazan food blogger, was also recognized for his innovative approach to showcasing Gaza’s culture through food, making waves on the international culinary scene despite the challenging circumstances in his homeland.
