Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan of Pakistan assured his backing for the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Business and Investment Conference 2024, scheduled to be held at the Jinnah Convention Center in Islamabad on September 11-12, 2024. This affirmation came during a meeting with a delegation from the Federation of Pakistan Chamber of Commerce and Industries (FPCCI), led by President Atif Akram Sheikh.

During the interaction, Minister Khan accepted the invitation extended by FPCCI to attend the conference, emphasizing the organization’s pivotal role in advancing Pakistan’s business sector. He pledged full ministerial support for FPCCI’s current and future initiatives, highlighting the Chamber’s significance as the apex body representing Pakistan’s trade and industry.

The upcoming SCO conference, set to include business-to-business (B2B) sessions focusing on sectors like Regional Tourism and Digital Transformation within the SCO region, was acknowledged by Minister Khan as crucial for enhancing regional economic cooperation.

President Atif Akram Sheikh conveyed the business community’s enthusiastic support and discussed potential business prospects expected at the conference. He also highlighted FPCCI’s involvement in upcoming business delegations to Saudi Arabia, UAE, China, Russia, and other countries, seeking enhanced international business ties.

Minister Khan agreed to involve FPCCI in the formulation of these delegations, emphasizing the Chamber’s role in facilitating the relocation of Chinese industries to Pakistan. He expressed interest in FPCCI’s research on the Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA) with China, urging the Chamber to provide its recommendations for further consideration.

In closing, Minister Khan commended FPCCI for organizing impactful B2B matchmaking meetings and accepted an invitation to visit their offices in Karachi and Islamabad. This visit underscores his commitment to collaborative efforts aimed at bolstering Pakistan’s business environment.
