China Condemns Terror Attacks in Pakistan, Vows Continued Support in Anti-Terrorism Efforts

BEIJING: China has strongly condemned the recent terror attacks in Pakistan and reiterated its commitment to supporting the country in its fight against terrorism, a Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson stated during a regular press briefing on Tuesday.

The attacks in Balochistan, which have been described as the most widespread in years, resulted in the deaths of at least 73 people. On Sunday night, armed men blocked a highway in Musakhel, offloaded 23 passengers from vehicles, checked their identity cards, and then shot them dead. In addition, 35 vehicles were set ablaze in the area.

Hameed Zahir, the deputy commissioner, confirmed that the attackers also killed truck drivers transporting coal. Furthermore, on Monday, terrorists attacked police stations, railway lines, and highways, prompting retaliatory operations by security forces. Six security personnel and four civilians were killed during clashes in Kalat’s central district, according to police official Dostain Khan Dashti.

Balochistan, Pakistan’s largest but least populated province, borders Iran and Afghanistan and remains underdeveloped with high levels of poverty.
