LAHORE: Hasan Shah, the alleged mastermind behind the gang that honey-trapped and extorted ransom from renowned playwright Khalilur Rehman Qamar, has been arrested, according to Lahore police. Shah and his accomplice, Rafiq, were apprehended in Peshawar.
The gang reportedly created an “objectionable” video of Qamar and made it viral. The incident, which occurred on July 15, involved a woman luring Qamar to her home under the pretense of discussing a new drama project. Once there, armed men attacked him, and he was reportedly allowed to leave only after paying a significant ransom.
The first information report (FIR), filed on July 21, includes charges under Sections 395 (punishment for dacoity) and 365 (kidnapping or abducting with intent to confine) of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC).
Following Qamar’s complaint, the Organised Crime Unit (OCU) of Model Town arrested 12 suspects, including key suspect Amina Urooj. Urooj and the other suspects are currently on remand as the investigation continues.
Qamar, known for his dramas like Meray Paas Tum Ho and Pyarey Afzal, explained that he had met the woman at 4:40 am due to a doctor’s advice to avoid daytime outings. He clarified that the woman had insisted on meeting him to discuss potential work on a drama.
