Sindh Announces Discounted Solar Panel Scheme in Upcoming Budget

Sindh Energy Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah has announced a new initiative to provide solar panels at highly discounted rates as part of the upcoming budget. The scheme aims to promote solar energy and alleviate energy poverty among the poor and middle class in Sindh.

The Sindh government plans to allocate Rs 5 billion for solar energy projects in the new budget. Under this plan, 200,000 solar panels will be distributed, with the government covering 80% of the cost and the remaining 20% to be paid by recipients. This is intended to make solar energy more accessible and affordable.

Shah highlighted that 500,000 households in Sindh currently lack access to electricity. The new solar initiative seeks to address this by providing a reliable and sustainable energy source.

Additionally, the government will establish solar parks and mini-grid stations throughout the province, including Karachi, to improve residents’ quality of life. The initiative also includes providing 100 units of free electricity to the public, easing the financial burden on low-income families. This aligns with similar efforts in other provinces, such as Punjab, where 50,000 households using up to 100 units of electricity will receive free solar systems.
