PTI leader Zartaj Gul has been nominated as the parliamentary leader in the National Assembly by the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC). PTI founding chairman Imran Khan approved Gul’s appointment. PTI had proposed four names: Zartaj Gul, Sahibzada Mehboob Sultan, Zain Qureshi, and Ahmed Chatha.
Earlier, a two-member bench of the Sindh High Court (SHC), led by Chief Justice Aqeel Ahmed Abbasi, heard the case challenging SIC’s recognition as a parliamentary party. The court dismissed the petition.
The petitioner’s lawyer argued that a parliamentary party must secure a position in the national or provincial assembly under Article 63A of the Constitution. The lawyer contended that SIC did not win any seats, disqualifying it from being considered a parliamentary party.
Chief Justice Abbasi noted that the speaker has the authority to determine parliamentary parties, not the court. The court dismissed the petition, instructing Maulvi Iqbal Haider to consult the speaker.
