Yellow Line BRT: A Transformative Initiative for Karachi, Says Sharjeel Inam Memon

Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has underscored the Yellow Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project as a transformative initiative for the citizens of Karachi. Backed by a substantial investment of 100 billion rupees from the World Bank, the project is poised to enhance public transportation in the city and will be operated under a Public-Private Partnership model.

Project Overview

Speaking to the media after inspecting the ongoing development work, Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon stated that the Yellow Line BRT will cover a distance of 21 kilometers. A significant feature of this project includes the construction of a new bridge adjacent to the existing Jam Sadiq Bridge. The contractor has pledged to complete the project within 18 months; however, the Sindh government aims to expedite the process and finish it even earlier.

In a forward-thinking move, Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon expressed the government’s intention to discuss with the World Bank the possibility of integrating electric vehicles (EVs) into the BRT system, aligning with global trends toward sustainable transportation. Furthermore, he revealed that the Sindh government plans to introduce double-decker buses and environmentally friendly vehicles as part of its broader initiative to modernize public transport in Pakistan, all under the leadership of the People’s Party.

Political Commentary

In addition to discussing the Yellow Line BRT project, Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon addressed several pressing political issues. He alleged that an Israeli lobby is actively supporting Imran Khan and highlighted the role of the Goldsmith group in this context. Reflecting on past political arrests, he remarked on the unjust treatment of political figures, including his own party leader, Ms. Faryal Talpur, who was arrested during Imran Khan’s tenure. He emphasized his opposition to the arrest of anyone’s family members, declaring, “We oppose the arrest of anyone’s mother, sister, or daughter-in-law.”

Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon further accused Imran Khan of receiving preferential treatment, suggesting that this support is facilitated by his ex-wife and brother-in-law, who are associated with the Goldsmiths. He referred to statements made by Dr. Israr Khan and the late Hakeem Saeed, asserting that they had previously indicated Imran Khan was imposed on Pakistan by Israeli interests. According to him, both leaders claimed that Imran Khan is a “Jewish agent.”

In response to a question regarding the political landscape, Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon acknowledged the experience of Maulana Fazlur Rehman, noting that his political strength lies in maintaining open lines of communication and dialogue.

Moreover, he referenced the Election Commission’s findings, which he claimed indicated that Imran Khan’s political party, the PTI, received funding from India and Israel. He cited a revelation by the late journalist Arshad Sharif, who purportedly disclosed that money from these countries had been deposited into PTI’s secret accounts. Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon articulated concerns that if Israel is vocal about Imran Khan’s political situation, it suggests a deeper connection, stating, “It clearly indicates that he is a fitna (mischief) created by them.”

He characterized the PTI workers as innocent individuals caught in a larger political web, emphasizing that the real nexus exists between Imran Khan and foreign influences. He pointed out that articles supporting Imran Khan have appeared in Israeli newspapers, asserting that although some within the PTI, like Barrister Gohar and Asad Qaiser, may be unaware of these connections, the evidence of Khan’s ties to Israel is apparent.

In a stark statement, he claimed, “Imran Khan is an agent of Israel. Israel is exterminating human beings and is blind to cruelty and brutality.” He concluded with a call to action, suggesting that the Israeli government is now advocating for the arrest of Imran Khan.

Lastly, Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon invoked historical references, asserting that Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto made Pakistan a nuclear power and positing that Imran Khan represents a new kind of threat to the nation.

Earlier in his address, he expressed gratitude to the media for their presence at the project site, highlighting the importance of transparency and communication regarding significant developments in public infrastructure.
