Woman’s Legs Severed by Father and Uncles for Seeking Divorce in Nausharoferoz District

In a horrifying incident in Sindh’s Nausharoferoz district, Sobia Batool Shah suffered severe trauma when her father and uncles savagely hacked off her legs for seeking a divorce to escape an abusive marriage.

Sobia’s father, Syed Mustafa Shah, along with her uncles Syed Qurban Shah, Ehsan Shah, Shah Nawaz, and Mushtaq Shah, attacked her with axes in Gul Town, leaving her in a pool of blood. This brutal act of violence has left Sobia facing the possibility of a lifelong handicap.

Sobia was rushed to Nawab Shah hospital by local police, where she revealed the extent of the abuse inflicted by her husband, who failed to support her and their two children. Despite repeatedly informing her family of her suffering, they dismissed her pleas and labeled her a disgrace.

Desperate to escape her situation, Sobia filed for divorce, which incited her father and uncles to retaliate violently, accusing her of dishonoring the family. When she refused to withdraw her case, they attacked her.

The senior superintendent of police (SSP) of Nausharoferoz has ordered the local station house officer (SHO) to arrest all the perpetrators and ensure Sobia’s security. So far, one suspect, Mushtaq Shah, has been arrested, with police conducting further raids to apprehend the remaining culprits.
