A tragic incident unfolded in Karachi’s Garden East neighborhood on Sunday evening, claiming the lives of two young boys and a plumber. The accident occurred within the compound of a residential building near Fawara Chowk.
Eyewitnesses reported that the boys, aged 8 and 12, were playing by jumping on the lid of a 120-foot-deep submersible pump well when the lid suddenly broke under their weight. The children plunged to the bottom of the well, where a submersible water pump was installed, trapping them inside.
In a frantic attempt to rescue the boys, the residents called a local plumber to descend into the well. Tragically, the rope the plumber was using snapped, causing him to fall into the well as well.
Rescue teams were quickly dispatched to the scene after authorities were alerted. However, the narrow structure of the well made the rescue operation difficult. Despite their efforts, when the children, identified as Badar and Talha, along with the plumber, were finally pulled out, all three were in critical condition. They were later declared dead.
The incident has left the local community in deep shock, highlighting the urgent need for safety measures around unsecured wells in residential areas.
