Survey of Government Houses in Islamabad: Findings and Actions Taken

In a significant initiative directed by the federal cabinet, the Estate Office, in collaboration with the Intelligence Bureau, has successfully completed a comprehensive survey assessing “policy and condition violations” by allottees of government houses in Islamabad. Launched on May 11, the survey was conducted over a span of five months.

According to sources, three survey teams examined a total of 4,700 government houses. The report highlighted several critical issues:

  • 313 houses were found to be illegally occupied.
  • 193 houses were partially rented out.
  • 1,125 allottees had made unauthorized constructions within their residences.

In response to these findings, the Estate Office Islamabad has managed to vacate 268 houses. This includes 101 houses from categories one to four, alongside 167 houses from types A to I.

The federal cabinet had previously instructed the Ministry of Housing and Construction during its meeting on April 26, 2024, to conduct this survey in cooperation with the IB, aiming to identify illegal occupations and constructions within government housing.
