The Sindh government has earmarked Rs 8 billion in the upcoming fiscal year budget for the “Haari Card” initiative, aimed at providing financial aid to farmers with landholdings of 12.5 acres or less.
Unveiling the 2024-25 budget, Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah highlighted the impact of high inflation on various segments of society. While salaried workers benefit from increased wages, and laborers from higher minimum wages, farmers are the most affected due to climate change and rising input costs. To support these farmers, the Sindh government will offer financial assistance to all Haaris with land up to 12.5 acres without discrimination.
Sindh Government Introduces ‘Kisan Card’ Programme
The registration of approximately 788,000 out of 1.2 million farmers will be expedited. Rs 8 billion has been allocated for FY 2024-25 to provide financial aid to Haaris based on per acre slabs.
Additionally, the Sindh government proposes the “Benazir Mazdoor Card” for laborers registered with the labor department, with Rs 5 billion reserved from the Workers Welfare Fund (WWF) for its implementation. Benefits for cardholders include full medical coverage, cash benefits, employment injury grants, Iddat compensation, maternity coverage, death grants, disablement pensions, survivor pensions, cash grants, marriage grants, and educational scholarships.
Inclusive Enclave for Differently-Abled Children
The Sindh government announced a significant initiative for differently-abled children, starting a project for an inclusive enclave. This 80-acre complex will include hospitals, schools, rehabilitation centers, and sports facilities, enabling full and equal participation in society and eliminating barriers. This initiative aims to inspire society and reduce discrimination against differently-abled individuals.
Benazir Women Agricultural Workers Program
The budget allocates Rs 500 million for the Benazir Women Agricultural Workers Program. Chief Minister Shah emphasized that women empowerment is crucial for societal balance and economic development. This program is expected to enhance agricultural output and improve the living standards of rural women involved in agriculture.
