PTA Warns Against Buying Cloned or Duplicate Mobile Devices

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has cautioned consumers about the risks of purchasing cloned or duplicate mobile devices from the market. Emphasizing the importance of buying from reputable retailers, the PTA advised ensuring that devices come with an active warranty.

To secure a safe purchase, the PTA recommended that consumers:

  • Obtain phones in their original packaging.
  • Verify that the IMEI numbers match those printed on the boxes.
  • Check for the PTA stamp on the boxes.

Consumers can validate their devices by using the DVS app, sending an SMS with their IMEI number to 8484, or visiting the PTA website.

The regulator also warned against purchasing expensive devices at suspiciously low prices or without a warranty. If fraud is suspected, customers should ensure their devices are properly packaged, contact the seller, and report any issues to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) for action.
