Professor’s Tragic Suicide Linked to Marital Problems in Khairpur

In a heart-wrenching incident, Sofi Muhammad Sallih, a professor at Shah Abdul Latif University (SALU) in Khairpur, reportedly committed suicide due to “marital problems,” leaving his family, colleagues, and students in shock.

Sallih, a faculty member in SALU’s Department of Business Administration, shot himself inside a room at Sami Hostel on the university premises. The gunshot prompted immediate attention from teachers and staff, who rushed him to Khairpur Civil Hospital.

The weapon used in the incident has been sent for forensic examination, and a post-mortem is pending to further the investigation into the alleged suicide. According to a station house officer (SHO), Sallih was a bigamist, having recently married again while his first wife and children resided in Islamabad. The police have yet to interview his next of kin.

Coworkers reported that Sallih was “depressed” due to marital issues, which could be a contributing factor in his suicide. However, the police stressed that it is too early to draw definitive conclusions.

In a related incident earlier this year, a man near Jinnah International Airport committed suicide after murdering his wife and three children, driven by financial hardships due to unemployment. Similarly, in November 2022, a man in Karachi’s Malir area attempted suicide after killing his wife and three daughters, also due to financial crises.
