Sukkur, 24 June 2024: President Asif Ali Zardari has emphasized the gradual rehabilitation of willing criminals from the Kacha Area in Sindh, excluding hardened criminals, to reintegrate them into society as responsible and productive citizens. He also called for strict action against those involved in heinous crimes.

During a meeting on Sindh’s security and law and order situation in Sukkur on Monday, the President stressed the importance of prioritizing improvements in the road, health, and education infrastructure of the Kacha Areas to enhance the socio-economic conditions of the residents. He suggested convening a Qaumi Jirga, comprising tribal chiefs, to engage with the local population, foster normalcy, prevent crimes, de-weaponize the area, and improve overall security.

Federal Minister for Interior Mr. Mohsin Raza Naqvi, MNA Syed Khursheed Ahmed Shah, Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah, Speaker Sindh Assembly Syed Waqar Qadir Shah, Senior Minister Mr. Sharjeel Inam Memon, Minister Planning and Development Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, Minister Home, Law and Parliamentary Affairs Mr. Zia ul Hassan Lanjar, Additional Chief Secretary Sindh Mr. Muhammad Iqbal Memon, IG Sindh Mr. Ghulam Nabi Memon, DG Ranger Sindh Major General Azhar Waqas, GOC 16 Div Major General Aamer Amin, and senior federal and provincial officials attended the meeting.

The President was briefed on the law-and-order situation in Sindh and the progress on directives from the previous meeting held on 1st May 2024. It was noted that crimes and violence, especially in Karachi and Kacha Areas, have declined due to effective strategies by the police and Rangers.

IG Police reported a significant reduction in dacoit activities, with no highway-related crimes reported in the past two months. The installation of smart cameras and targeted operations have been instrumental in controlling crimes and apprehending criminals and their abettors.

DG Rangers informed the meeting about 133 joint operations conducted by Sindh Police and Rangers, resulting in the arrest of hundreds of dacoits and criminals. Additional check posts have been established in various parts of Kacha to further control crime.

On the President’s directive, the campaign against drug peddlers was intensified, leading to the arrest of 308 drug suppliers and the installation of smart cameras at province entry points for better monitoring.

President Zardari underscored the need for the Sindh Government to raise a modern police force to effectively address the province’s security challenges. He emphasized strengthening the Sindh Police’s capacity by providing modern equipment, adequate human resources, and logistics. He also highlighted the importance of incentivizing police officials and encouraging women to join the force, ensuring the welfare of police martyrs’ families.

The President directed the expedited upgrade of the Sakrand Police Commando School and the provision of land for a Police Cadet College. Selected students from the Cadet College will be trained to join the Sindh Police.

President Zardari appreciated the efforts of the Sindh Government, Police, and Rangers in controlling crime and improving the province’s security situation.
