Pakistan Replaces Azam Khan with Imad Wasim for High-Voltage T20 World Cup Match Against India
Pakistan has excluded wicket-keeper batsman Azam Khan and replaced him with all-rounder Imad Wasim for the high-stakes T20 World Cup match against India today, sources told PressTonight.
Azam Khan struggled in the match against the USA, getting dismissed for a duck, and failed to make a significant impact in his recent appearances in the national T20I side. Critics have heavily targeted the 25-year-old cricketer for both his physical fitness and on-field performance.
National team head coach Gary Kirsten confirmed on Saturday that all-rounder Imad Wasim is fit and will play in the highly anticipated match in New York.
Sources revealed that Pakistan’s finalized playing XI for the match against India excludes Azam Khan. The team will feature four fast bowlers, two all-rounders, and a spinner.
The confirmed squad includes captain Babar Azam, wicket-keeper-batter Muhammad Rizwan, batsman Usman Khan, left-handed batter Fakhar Zaman, Iftikhar Ahmed, Shadab Khan, Imad Wasim, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Haris Rauf, Muhammad Amir, and Naseem Shah.
Reports indicate that skipper Babar Azam and coach Kirsten no longer trust Azam Khan, as they did not allow him to bat during net practice sessions.
