Pakistan Climbs to Top 40 in Global Cybersecurity Index, Now Rated Tier-1

Pakistan has risen to Tier-1 (Role-modelling) status in the Global Cybersecurity Index (GCI) 2024, securing a spot among the top 40 countries, a significant leap from its previous rank of 79. This achievement highlights Pakistan’s commitment to bolstering cybersecurity, especially in the IT and telecom sectors, according to a Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) press release.

Key contributors to this success include the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication (MoITT), PTA, and other stakeholders. Major initiatives such as the Cyber Security Policy, CERT Rules, and the establishment of the National Telecom Security Operation Centre have played a pivotal role in enhancing Pakistan’s cybersecurity framework.

The PTA emphasized that these efforts, alongside compliance with international standards by local telecom operators, have strengthened the nation’s defenses against cyber threats. The MoITT and PTA remain dedicated to maintaining a secure and resilient cyberspace for Pakistan.
