Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Ameer Hafiz Naeemur Rehman has declared a nationwide sit-in on major roads across the country on September 29, protesting against the government’s inability to fulfill the promises made under the Rawalpindi agreement.

Addressing the press at Mansoorah on Tuesday, Hafiz Naeemur Rehman revealed that the 45-day deadline for implementing the agreement expired on September 23, yet the government has failed to deliver any relief to the public.

In response, JI has planned a public referendum from October 23 to October 27, urging citizens to boycott electricity bills. Hafiz Naeemur Rehman also hinted at escalating the protest by considering further actions, including a wheel-jam strike and a long march towards Islamabad, in an effort to push the government to reduce power bills and alleviate the public’s financial burden.
