India Triumphs Over Pakistan in T20 World Cup 2024 Thriller

NEW YORK: India defeated Pakistan by six runs in a thrilling, low-scoring match at the T20 World Cup 2024, held at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York on Sunday.

Chasing a target of 120, Pakistan managed to score 113 runs for the loss of seven wickets. Muhammad Rizwan top-scored for Pakistan with 31 off 44 balls, while skipper Babar Azam added 13 off 10 deliveries.

Jasprit Bumrah’s exceptional bowling performance earned him the Player of the Match award. He took three crucial wickets, conceding only 14 runs in his four overs.

Earlier in the day, Pakistan’s fast bowlers restricted India to 119 in 19 overs after Babar Azam opted to bowl first. India struggled to build any significant partnerships against the Pakistani pace attack.

Virat Kohli first to be dismissed, falling to Naseem Shah in the second over after scoring four runs off three balls. Indian captain Rohit Sharma followed in the next over, caught out trying to hit Shaheen Afridi for a six, scoring 13 off 12 balls.

Rishabh Pant and Axar Patel attempted to stabilize India’s innings, reaching 58 in 7.3 overs before Naseem Shah bowled Patel. Patel’s dismissal led to a middle-order collapse, with India losing Pant, Suryakumar Yadav, Shivam Dube, and Hardik Pandya in quick succession. Pant top-scored for India with 42 off 31 balls, while seven Indian batsmen failed to reach double figures.

Pakistan’s Naseem Shah and Haris Rauf each claimed three wickets, conceding 21 runs apiece in their spells. Mohammad Amir took two wickets for 23 runs in his four overs, while Shaheen Afridi secured one wicket in his four-over spell.

The match faced multiple rain delays but ultimately resumed, providing an enthralling contest between the two cricketing giants.
