Government Reverses Decision to Increase Charges for Low-Power Consumers

The government has reversed its decision to increase charges for protected slabs of up to 200 units of power consumption, sources told presstonight on Tuesday. This move comes after Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif secured approval from the federal cabinet for the circulation summary on an emergency basis, they added.

Previously, on July 4, sources cited by The News reported that the federal cabinet had agreed to implement a significant condition set by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) — an increase in the electricity tariff. The federal cabinet had approved this tariff hike through a circulation summary, according to the sources.
