Government decides to ban PTI under Article 6

The federal government of Pakistan has announced its decision to ban the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). This decision was made public by Federal Information Minister Atta Tarar during a press conference. Tarar stated that the government plans to file a formal case to enforce this ban.

Key points from the announcement include:

  1. Existential Conflict: Tarar emphasized that “PTI and Pakistan cannot co-exist,” highlighting the government’s stance on the incompatibility of PTI’s activities with the country’s stability.
  2. Legal Actions Against Leadership: The government intends to file references for treason under Article 6 of the Constitution against PTI founder and former Prime Minister Imran Khan, as well as former President Arif Alvi. This move underscores the seriousness of the government’s allegations against the PTI leadership.
  3. Supreme Court Review Petition: The government also plans to submit a review petition to the Supreme Court. This petition will challenge the Supreme Court’s previous verdict which allowed PTI to be eligible for reserved seats for women and minorities. The government seeks to overturn this decision as part of its broader strategy against PTI.

The federal government’s actions represent a significant escalation in its confrontation with PTI, potentially leading to substantial political and legal battles in the near future.
