The government is considering the blending of ethanol into petrol, with the prime minister forming a committee to explore the prospects in this regard. According to The News, this committee will be headed by the minister of petroleum and will include the minister of finance, the minister of state for finance, and the secretary of the Petroleum Division.
The committee has been tasked with developing a policy for ethanol blending under specific terms of reference (TORs). It will study international best practices and analyze previous attempts in Pakistan to blend ethanol into petrol.
The goal is to create a concrete plan and policy for the production and supply of ethanol-blended petrol in the country. The prime minister has given the committee one month to finalize its recommendations.
