KARACHI: The family of a father-daughter duo who tragically lost their lives in a high-profile hit-and-run accident in Karachi last month has officially pardoned the main suspect, Natasha Danish. This development was confirmed through an affidavit released to the media on Friday.
The case, which garnered significant public and media attention, involved allegations that the police were not properly investigating the incident due to the suspect’s influential background. CCTV footage widely circulated on social media depicted a Toyota Land Cruiser, allegedly driven by Natasha Danish, striking a motorbike, resulting in the deaths of a woman and her father, and injuring five others. Natasha Danish is the wife of prominent businessman Danish Iqbal, who owns Metro Capital (Private) Limited and JSDN Electric Limited under the Metro Power business group.
Initially, the defense attempted to argue that Natasha Danish required long-term psychiatric treatment, but the case took a turn when her urine sample tested positive for methamphetamine, commonly known as ‘ice.’
In the affidavit submitted to the court, Romana Imran, the widow of one of the deceased, stated under oath that she had forgiven Natasha Danish and her husband, Danish Iqbal, in the name of Almighty Allah. Romana emphasized that she had reached this decision voluntarily, without any external pressure, and expressed no objection to the court granting bail to the accused, describing the incident as an “unintentional accident.”
While the affidavit did not specify whether any financial compensation, or diyat, was involved, such settlements are a recognized and accepted practice in Islamic law and Pakistan’s criminal code.
