The chief minister visited the office of the Sindh People’s Housing for Flood Affectees, where he was briefed on the progress of the housing project for flood-affected individuals. Shah emphasized the significant damage caused by the 2022 floods in Sindh and highlighted the ongoing efforts to address the crisis.
“We are working on the world’s biggest project, constructing 2.1 million housing units for flood victims,” Shah stated. He acknowledged the initial lack of funds but affirmed the project’s presentation at the Geneva conference, which secured the necessary financial support.
Shah also mentioned the resumption of the ownership rights process for the affected people, which had previously been suspended. The construction of 2.1 million housing units represents the largest project of its kind globally, according to the chief minister.
However, Shah noted a delay in the release of development funds due to the federal government not constituting the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC), which is required for project approval. Despite this, he expressed optimism that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif would fulfill his commitment to the people of Sindh.
The housing project, which has received international recognition, includes eight lakh women beneficiaries, with around eight lakh houses currently under construction. Both the federal and provincial governments had allocated Rs25 billion each for the project, but the federal funds have yet to be released.
