A ceasefire has been successfully brokered between two warring tribes in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Kurram district, following days of deadly clashes that have resulted in significant loss of life. The Deputy Commissioner (DC) confirmed the ceasefire on Sunday, as the death toll from the ongoing violence reached 130, with 186 others injured.
According to the DC’s statement, armed tribesmen have been removed from firing positions, and additional police and security forces have been deployed in the region to maintain peace and stability. However, the DC refrained from providing further details about the ceasefire agreement.
The violence, which had persisted for 11 consecutive days, saw an escalation overnight, with six more individuals killed and eight others wounded in continued firing. The situation in Kurram district has been dire, and the ceasefire offers a glimmer of hope for restoring order in the region.
