Chairman of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Bilawal Bhutto Zardari emphasized the urgent need to expedite the rehabilitation and construction of homes for those affected by the devastating floods, calling upon both federal and provincial governments to release the necessary funds. Addressing the participants at a grant awarding and cheque distribution ceremony held at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat in Quetta, alongside Chief Minister Balochistan Mir Sarfraz Bugti, Bilawal highlighted his personal efforts in securing international aid for the flood-stricken communities of Balochistan and Sindh.
Bilawal revealed that he had personally developed the rehabilitation plan and successfully raised funds to enable the construction of climate-resilient housing for those displaced by the floods. He also secured land ownership for the affected families to safeguard them from future disasters. However, he expressed concern over the delays in the implementation of the project, urging the provincial government to push the federal government for the release of funds as per the agreed plan.
He reassured the audience that once the allocated funds are utilized and the displaced communities are provided with shelter, he would present the case for additional funding from international financial institutions. The funds, according to Bilawal, would significantly assist in constructing climate-adapted homes that can withstand future calamities.
Bilawal Bhutto Zardari also praised the Sindh government for its success in outsourcing the construction of houses for flood victims and suggested that the Balochistan government adopt a similar model to ensure timely completion and efficient use of the funds. He urged for swift action to facilitate the maximum number of flood-affected families, stressing that much work remains to be done in addressing this humanitarian crisis.
