When it comes to celebrities who have consistently voiced their support for Palestine, Bella Hadid stands out. On Nakba Day, the model shared a heartfelt post on Instagram urging global governments to show more empathy towards Palestinians.
“As the child of a Nakba survivor and the grandchild of those who lived through it and never returned home, today is a day to not just acknowledge the pain and suffering of the Nakba, but to put an end to it,” she wrote. Bella’s father, Mohamed Hadid, has spoken about his experiences as a Nakba survivor and how his family’s home was taken by refugees they once hosted.
“Even in 2024, people in Palestine are being brutalized, terrorized, tortured, and killed simply for being Palestinian and living on their ancestral land,” Bella wrote. “I am heartbroken over the suffering of Palestinians and the lack of empathy from global governments.”
She urged governments to “do better for everyone involved or step down. Don’t become desensitized to the horrific images you’re seeing. This is real life. And while it might not be happening to you, imagine if it was your loved ones.”
Bella implored people to look into the eyes of those suffering and into their own hearts to understand “the pain of living through genocide, being deprived of basic rights, and having homes and history stolen before your eyes, while facing starvation and continuous military occupation.”
She emphasized, “It isn’t war when only one side is backed by the world’s strongest military.”
Bella also provided information about Nakba Day, which commemorates the mass displacement of around 700,000 Palestinians from their land by Jewish settlers.
Israel’s actions in Gaza have displaced millions and claimed thousands of lives, including men, women, and children.
