PM Shehbaz Sharif to Sign Agreements with Chinese Leadership During Beijing Visit

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will meet top Chinese leaders in Beijing today. He will sign various agreements with China. Sharif’s office announced this on Friday.

The Pakistani premier arrived in China for a five-day trip. He will attend a reception in his honor. This is part of efforts to boost the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). Beijing pledged over $60 billion in Pakistan for this.

“The Prime Minister will meet President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang,” said Sharif’s office. “He will also meet NPC Chairman Zhao Liji and attend the MoU signing ceremony.”

CPEC began in 2013. It has funded many projects in Pakistan. These include transport, energy, and infrastructure. Pakistan has faced financial struggles and militant attacks on Chinese assets.

Sharif also aims to attract Chinese investors to support Pakistan’s economy. He met Chinese tech firms in Shenzhen on Wednesday. Officials from 79 Pakistani companies also attended the business forum.

On Thursday, Sharif spoke at the Pak-China Friendship and Business Reception in Beijing. He met Chinese aid and trade officials. He discussed alternative energy systems with PowerChina’s chairman.

“There is great potential for alternative energy investment in Pakistan,” Sharif said. He visited Zhongguancun Science Park, also known as China’s Silicon Valley. He learned about China’s tech start-ups and innovation.

“The discussions focused on tech start-ups, R&D centers, and digital infrastructure,” said Sharif’s office. “The Prime Minister praised China’s tech advances and saw great potential for cooperation.”
