Islamabad – The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) has announced a Rs3.76 per unit increase in electricity rates as part of a quarterly adjustment. This adjustment allows power companies to recover over Rs46 billion from consumers for the third quarter of FY2023-24, spread over June, July, and August 2024.
According to the notification, the decision permits recovery at the rates of Rs1.90/kWh in June, and Rs0.9262/kWh in both July and August. This increase applies to all consumer categories, except lifeline consumers of XWDISCOs and K-Electric.
“In pursuance of Proviso (ii) to Sub-Section 7 of Section 31 of the Regulation of Generation, Transmission and Distribution of Electric Power Act, 1997, Nepra hereby notifies the complete decision of the authority regarding the requests filed by XWDISCOs for periodic adjustment in tariff for the 3rd quarter of FY 2023-24, already communicated to the Ministry of Energy (Power Division) on May 31, 2024,” the notification stated.
Nepra has directed all power distribution companies to strictly comply with court orders related to this decision. This latest price hike adds to the financial burden on consumers already grappling with high inflation.
Earlier, Nepra increased the electricity tariff by Rs2.83 per unit for March 2024 due to fuel charges adjustment.
