ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) is celebrating its 57th Foundation Day today (Saturday) with traditional enthusiasm and fervor. Chairman of PPP, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, extended heartfelt congratulations to party workers, supporters, and the people of Pakistan on this momentous occasion, marking 57 years of dedication to democracy, social justice, and the empowerment of the people.
In a statement issued on the occasion, Bilawal highlighted the lasting legacy of Quaid-e-Awam Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, who founded the PPP on November 30, 1967. He emphasized Bhutto’s vision of creating an egalitarian society based on equality, human rights, and economic prosperity, which continues to guide the party’s values.
Bilawal also paid tribute to the sacrifices of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, who championed democracy with unmatched courage, inspiring millions through her commitment to social welfare and democratic ideals.
The PPP chairman reminded the nation of the pivotal role the party played in shaping Pakistan’s history under the leadership of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, particularly in framing the 1973 Constitution, which enshrined equal rights and representation for all citizens. He also pointed out Bhutto’s role in initiating Pakistan’s nuclear program, bolstering the country’s defense, and championing social reforms in land redistribution, labor rights, and education.
Bilawal further praised Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto for her leadership as the first woman to lead a Muslim-majority nation. She not only empowered women but also led significant advancements in social welfare, and played a crucial role in Pakistan’s cruise missile technology development.
Reflecting on the tenure of Asif Ali Zardari, Bilawal highlighted the PPP government’s unwavering commitment to social equity. The landmark 18th Amendment, which solidified provincial autonomy, and the launch of the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), have had a transformative impact on millions of underprivileged citizens across the country.
“The PPP has always been the voice of the marginalized, the defender of workers’ and peasants’ rights, and a staunch advocate for the empowerment of women and minorities,” Bilawal stated. “Since its inception, the PPP has remained steadfast in its mission to create a peaceful, progressive, and prosperous Pakistan.”
Bilawal also commended the resilience and dedication of PPP workers, describing them as the backbone of the party’s enduring strength and success. He reaffirmed the party’s commitment to its founding principles, promising to continue the fight against oppression, inequality, and injustice.
“As we celebrate this historic day, let us renew our pledge to uphold the party’s principles and work tirelessly for the welfare of the people. Together, we will fulfill the vision of a democratic and inclusive Pakistan,” Bilawal concluded, urging party workers to commemorate the day with enthusiasm, unity, and a spirit of sacrifice in honor of those who gave their lives for the cause of democracy and freedom.
