Sharjeel Inam Memon Calls for Unified Efforts to Combat Drug Abuse

Sindh Senior Minister for Information, Transport, Excise, Taxation, and Narcotics Control, Sharjeel Inam Memon, has stressed that drug abuse is one of the most significant challenges facing society today. In a recent discussion in the Sindh Assembly, Memon pointed out that drug trafficking is on the rise across the country, and the consumption of substances like cocaine, marijuana, heroin, ice, and crystal meth has become increasingly prevalent, with some even viewing cocaine addiction as a “status symbol” within elite circles.

Addressing Drug Challenges

Sharjeel Inam Memon acknowledged the ongoing efforts to combat drug abuse, including actions against trafficking and initiatives to raise public awareness. He highlighted that the Sindh Assembly had passed the anti-narcotics bill with broad consensus, a sign of both government and opposition benches working together in tackling drug-related issues. He emphasized that such unity in the face of this growing crisis was crucial for effectively addressing the problem.

“We must all work together to combat the scourge of drugs,” Sharjeel Inam Memon stated, urging both government and opposition members to continue their collaborative efforts. He also suggested that crime reporters and beat reporters from TV channels could play a key role in identifying drug-related problems, which would help authorities take immediate action.

Personal Commitment to Action

Sharjeel Inam Memon expressed concern that society has developed an attitude of indifference towards drug issues. He called on MPs and the public to change this mindset and take a stand against drug abuse and trafficking whenever possible. “We must not allow these problems to pass by unnoticed,” he said, stressing the need for proactive measures and collective responsibility.

Role of Parents and Educational Institutions

The Senior Minister emphasized the critical role of parents in preventing drug abuse among children. He urged parents to stay vigilant and not ignore any changes in their children’s behavior. According to Sharjeel Inam Memon, it is primarily the responsibility of parents to monitor their children’s activities, followed by schools and colleges, who must immediately investigate any signs of drug use or behavioral changes in students.

Call for Unity in the Fight Against Drugs

Sharjeel Inam Memon concluded by reiterating the importance of a united approach to tackle drug abuse. He proposed that if the authorities, media, and members of the Sindh Assembly work together with determination, the issue of drugs could be brought under control within a month. The collective effort, he said, is the key to ending the drug crisis and protecting the future of the nation’s youth.

In summary, Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon stressed the urgency of addressing Pakistan’s escalating drug problem and called for a unified, proactive response from all sectors of society, including government, media, and families.
