ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari sustained a foot fracture while disembarking from a plane at Dubai Airport on Wednesday night. According to a spokesperson for the President House, he was promptly taken to a hospital where doctors examined the injury and applied a plaster cast.
The spokesperson indicated that the president’s foot will remain in a cast for four weeks, and he has been advised to rest at home. Following treatment, President Zardari was returned to his residence.
In the meantime, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUIF) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman reached out to PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari to inquire about the president’s condition and extended his best wishes for a swift recovery.
Due to this injury, President Zardari will not proceed with his planned four-day visit to China, originally scheduled from November 4 to 7. This visit was intended for discussions with Chinese President Xi Jinping on phase 2 of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), as well as bilateral relations and regional security issues. President Zardari was also set to attend the Shanghai World Expo on November 5. Diplomatic sources suggest he may reschedule the trip for next month.
