Opposition Criticism Follows Government’s Increase in Petroleum Prices

Opposition parties have sharply criticized the federal government for its decision to raise petroleum prices, arguing that this move will further burden citizens already grappling with inflation.

In a surprising announcement, the government increased the petrol price by Rs1.35 per litre on Thursday night, effective until November 15. The new petrol price stands at Rs248.38 per litre, up from Rs247.03. High-speed diesel (HSD) also saw a hike of Rs3.85, bringing its price to Rs255.14 per litre from Rs251.29.

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) took to X to express its discontent, stating that while the government projects an image of stability in advertisements, it continues to impose price hikes on essential goods.

Jamaat-e-Islami Emir Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman condemned the increase, labeling it “shameful” and further demonstrating the growing frustration among opposition leaders regarding the government’s economic policies.
