On Thursday, the United States donated five mobile tuberculosis (TB) vans and three digital X-ray machines to the Sindh Health Department, aiming to enhance TB detection and treatment in remote areas of the province.
US Ambassador Donald Blome presented the equipment to Dr. Azra Fazal Pechuho, the Sindh Minister for Health and Population, who expressed her gratitude for the ongoing support from the US government. She highlighted that this initiative underscores the strong bilateral relations between Pakistan and the United States, while also aiming to strengthen Sindh’s healthcare system.
Ambassador Blome praised the dedication of the Sindh Health Department in the fight against TB and stressed the importance of the mobile units in providing better healthcare access. “These vans will enable the provincial health department to better serve the most vulnerable communities by providing them with access to lifesaving care,” he remarked.
Since the floods in 2022, the US has committed over $74 million in health aid, including TB diagnostic vans and mobile X-ray units, which have significantly improved TB diagnosis and treatment for at-risk populations. This investment is expected to enhance access to TB diagnostic services, foster community involvement, improve service delivery, and ultimately reduce TB cases in targeted districts.
This partnership aligns with Pakistan’s public health objectives and the global goal of eradicating TB by 2030, according to a statement released in Karachi.
