The Awami National Party (ANP) has proposed renaming Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to “Pakhtunkhwa,” a move that reflects the long-standing demand of Pakhtun nationalist groups. This recommendation was made during a special parliamentary committee session focused on the contentious 26th constitutional amendment.
Sources indicate that no political party objected to the proposal, suggesting a rare consensus among lawmakers from various parties, including PML-N, PPP, and PTI. ANP KP President Aimal Wali Khan expressed optimism, stating that all political factions are united in support of this name change. He emphasized the significance of the name “Pakhtunkhwa,” linking it to the province’s identity while acknowledging the importance of Khyber as a district.
This development marks a notable step in ongoing discussions about the region’s identity and governance.
