The Department of Excise, Taxation, and Narcotics Control has introduced a cutting-edge biometric registration and queue management system to modernize and streamline the vehicle registration process. Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon unveiled these new systems at the Excise Motor Registration Wing office in Karachi’s Civic Center. During the inauguration, Minister Memon emphasized the Sindh Government’s dedication to utilizing modern technology for public benefit, in line with the vision of President Asif Ali Zardari and Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.
The newly introduced systems aim to combat fraud and improve the efficiency of vehicle registration by incorporating biometric data, ensuring secure and tamper-proof processes. Additionally, they facilitate an orderly registration process with online appointment booking to minimize waiting times. A separate office for women and extended operational hours at a new District South office have also been established. Moreover, vehicle registration services will be available at home for a nominal fee.
Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon also highlighted the Excise Department’s efforts to create a user-friendly environment and mentioned that despite a court-mandated hiring freeze, the department is efficiently managing staff shortages. He addressed ongoing actions against non-custom-paid vehicles and those with incorrect number plates. In response to media questions, Memon reiterated allegations against Imran Khan, supported by evidence from credible sources and recent political events. He stressed prioritizing national interest over political allegiances and praised the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) for its enduring commitment to the country.
The department is also working on implementing tracker chips for motorcycles to enhance vehicle security. Senior officers, including Secretary Excise Sindh Saleem Rajput and DG Excise Aurangzeb Akbar Panhwar, attended the event, where outstanding staff members were recognized for their performance. This initiative marks a significant advancement in modernizing public services and improving the efficiency of the Excise Department in Sindh.
